Experienced Flight Nurse Position Available

Job Description

Island Air Ambulance (IAA) is seeking an experienced Flight Nurse to join our dedicated air medical transport team serving the San Juan Islands and the surrounding region. This role is ideal for a highly skilled critical care nurse who thrives in autonomous, high-acuity environments and is committed to exceptional patient care, safety, and teamwork.

Position Summary

The Flight RN provides advanced nursing care to critically ill and injured patients during fixed-wing air medical transport and ground transport missions. Working under the direction of the Island Air Ambulance Medical Program Director and Clinical Chief, the Flight RN assesses, stabilizes, and manages patients across all patient ages while ensuring safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced critical care nursing from initial patient contact through transfer of care
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, interventions, and documentation in austere and transport environments
  • Function as an integral member of the flight crew, participating in mission briefings, debriefings, and safety procedures
  • Operate within the Washington State scope of practice and Island Air Ambulance medical protocols
  • Maintain readiness of medical equipment and aircraft cabin for all missions
  • Collaborate professionally with EMS agencies, hospitals, pilots, and community partners
  • Participate in quality improvement, training, outreach, and continuing education activities
  • Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum3 years of critical care and/or emergency nursing experience
  • Current Washington State RN license
  • Current certifications:
  • BLS/CPR
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • NRP
  • TNCC or ATLS (audit acceptable)
  • CFRN required within one year of hire
  • Ability to obtain Washington State EMT certification within 3 months of hire
  • NIMS (IS 100, 200, 700, 800) and HazMat within 6 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN or bachelor's degree in a health-related field
  • Prehospital or air medical transport experience
  • CFRN, TPATC, ENPC
  • Washington State EMT or EMT-P certification

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • High-acuity, high-stress operational environment
  • Exposure to variable weather, noise, confined spaces, and physically demanding conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs and function safely in aircraft and ground transport settings
